A visit from children’s author Onjali Q. Raúf

Our pupils were recently inspired by a visit from acclaimed children’s author Onjali Q. Raúf. The special event also welcomed students from St Paul's Way Trust School, creating a shared and memorable experience.

Returning to the school she once attended, Onjali spoke warmly about her childhood and how her love of storytelling first began. She described creating bedtime stories for her brother and even turning sibling disagreements into imaginative tales.

She also reflected on spending time in her local library, where she discovered books such as those featuring Tintin, which inspired her to see curiosity and asking questions as a superpower.

Our pupils were captivated when Onjali discussed her writing journey and her books, including The Boy at the Back of the Class. She shared the real life experiences that shaped the story, as well as the challenges she faces when writing, explaining that every book is different and can take years to complete.

Our young learners had the chance to ask thoughtful and insightful questions, showing great engagement throughout. Many were thrilled to receive signed books and stickers, leaving the session excited and inspired.

This visit reflects our school values of Creativity and Motivation, as pupils were encouraged to use their imagination, ask questions, and explore their own passions for storytelling and beyond.
