This term, we had an informative workshop delivered by Queen Mary University of London, who visited our school to bring science to life in a memorable and engaging way. The session was led by the Centre of a Cell team, whose expertise helped pupils explore fascinating scientific ideas through practical activities and clear explanations.
The workshop introduced pupils to the world of cells, viruses and hair follicles, encouraging them to think about how the human body works and how everyday illnesses develop.
Pupils learned about the structure and function of different cells, including those found in skin and hair, and discovered how viruses spread and how the body responds to infections such as the flu and the common cold.
These activities helped pupils make meaningful connections between classroom learning and real-life experiences.
The hands-on nature of the workshop allowed pupils to ask questions, investigate scientific concepts and build confidence in their understanding of biology. By engaging directly with experts, pupils were able to deepen their curiosity and develop a stronger appreciation for the role science plays in keeping us healthy.
It supports them in developing important knowledge that will benefit them throughout their education and encouraged them to think critically, explore new ideas and enjoy learning in a fresh and exciting way.
This workshop links closely to our value of Improvement because it inspired pupils to aim high, explore new areas of learning and recognise the possibilities that open up when they approach challenges with curiosity and ambition.
